Pregnant Elephant Dies After Eating an Exploding Pineapple Filled with Firecrackers

WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGES

A pregnant elephant in Kerala, India was a victim of animal cruelty and died after eating a pineapple filled with firecrackers that exploded in her mouth.

The mama elephant chomped on the pineapple, causing it to explode and break her jaw.

The damage was so severe that she was unable to eat so she walked around the village and then went to the Velliyar River to die.

After examination of the body, it was discovered that she was pregnant and due to give birth 18–20 months later.

Despite her pain, she didn’t lash out or hurt a single human being. She just stood in the river because of the excruciating pain.

“When we saw her she was standing in the river, with her head dipped in the water. She had a sixth sense that she was going to die. She took the Jalasamadhi in the river in a standing position,” wrote Mohan Krishnan, a forest officer, according to The Tribune.

The Hindi meaning of Jalasmadhi is watery grave. This is heartbreaking.

The elephant just wanted to enjoy eating a pineapple and cruel humans caused her pain. Some reports state that these pineapples are used to keep wild boars from attacking crops, but that’s NO EXCUSE … it’s not OK to blow wild boars’ heads off, either!
