‘World’s Loneliest Dolphin’ Dies Alone in Abandoned Aquarium

1 Mins read

Honey, dubbed the ‘world’s loneliest dolphin,’ died alone after being abandoned in a Japanese aquarium despite attempts for her rescue.

Honey and other animals, including penguins and fish, were left behind at the Inubosaki Marine Park Aquarium after a decrease in visitors caused by the Japan earthquake of 2011. The animals had been fed by a lone employee but were otherwise left to fend for themselves, including swimming in unclean water.

Honey had been captured in 2005 near Taiji, the town that had become notorious for its annual dolphin hunt and slaughter which was exposed in the 2009 documentary, “The Cove.”

U.S. based animal charity, the Dolphin Project, made numerous attempts to rescue Honey with the hopes of purchasing her so that she could live the rest of her life in dignity. Unfortunately, talks ended before that dream could become a reality. Honey died in her tank alone.

We at Karmagawa mourn the loss of Honey, and condemn dolphin exploitation and slaughter.

We salute the Dolphin Project for their efforts to save Honey. Be sure to check out their site to learn more about them.

Our mission: to spread the message of great charities and their causes all over the world and give them more exposure.
