Bubby — a Three-Legged Cat — Is Rescued and Finds a Forever Home

2 Mins read

Bubby — a three-legged cat — captured the hearts of two families and has now found a forever home with rescue volunteer, Sarah MacLeod.

The story starts In 2012 when Bubby got the attention of Boyd Abbott after appearing in Boyd’s kitchen. Boyd fed the stray cat and the two began a beautiful friendship.

Boyd continued to feed Bubby and the stray cat’s visits became longer. Over the next five years, Bubby would give Boyd a reason to get up in the morning and their bond grew very tight.

Boyd wanted to make Bubby a permanent member of his family, but Bubby loved wandering outdoors.

Sadly, Boyd passed away in 2017. It was important to Boyd for someone to continue and watch over Bubby … and although his family searched for the stray cat, Bubby only visited the house once after his friend’s death and then never returned.

The family worried that Bubby was no longer alive but two years later, Bubby was spotted hanging around Boyd’s house again. The stray cat had just survived a bad winter snowstorm and was moving noticeably slower … struggling to survive on his own.

Boyd’s friend, Ray Pinsent, determined to catch Bubby so the cat could receive care. Ray asked the new owner of Boyd’s old home to contact him day or night if Bubby returned.

Sure enough, Ray received a call and was able to grab a hold of Bubby and bring him to Exploits Valley SPCA where Sarah MacLeod volunteered.

It was there that Sarah fell in love with Bubby and eventually brought him in to live with her and her boyfriend. She fell in love with Bubby’s strength to survive on his own for so long and his sad eyes.

Sarah posted a photo of Bubby on Facebook where Boyd’s daughter, Rhonda Wiseman, took notice of the familiar stray cat. Rhonda reached out and asked if she could visit Bubby and when the visitation happened, she told Sarah all about how Bubby stole the heart of her father. The two connected over how Bubby impacted their lives.
