Nine Seriously Ill Dogs Being Held Captive in Puppy Mill

2 Mins read

Fellow animal-lover and founder of Save Elephant Foundation, Lek Chailert, recently posted about nine seriously ill dogs being held captive in Chiang Mai, Thailand, begging for help to rescue the abused animals.

The dogs were being kept at the Thai Ridgeback Puppy Mill in terrible conditions. Lek and his team originally complained to authorities about the criminal acts, hoping they would enforce the law and free the poor dogs from their hell … but five hours later, the officials informed the rescue group that they didn’t see any wrongdoings and that they wouldn’t intervene.

Afterward, Lek and his team requested to take the weak animals to their hospital … but their cries fell on deaf ears.

Take a look at these heartbreaking pictures …

In 2020, Thai Ridgeback Puppy Mill was in the news after non-profit Watchdog Thailand rescued 50 dogs that were held in terrible conditions, and where many dogs died from illness and starvation.

The dogs were being kept in tiny cages that were stacked on top of each other. The animals had no room to play or exercise and waste was everywhere.

Thailand is also home to a large number of stray cats that are riddled with parasites and infections. It was estimated in 2017 that Thailand had 860,000 stray dogs and cats.

Organizations like Save Elephant Foundation and Watchdog Thailand have their hands full and it’s difficult to do the good work when authorities don’t enforce laws that are supposed to help them. At Karmagawa and SaveTheReef, we’re using our media channels to get the word out so that more and more people are aware of these challenges.
