Check out this video of a poor lemon shark that almost died …
The shark was choking and dying a slow death after plastic got wrapped around its body. The strap was even cutting through the animal’s skin.
A group of caring boat crew members attempted multiple times to remove the strap but were unsuccessful.
Finally, they tried a different method and put themselves in danger to free the suffering anima. On the final attempt, the rescuers were successful.
This shark was one of the few marine animals that got saved … but most marine animals aren’t as lucky.
Every year, 28 billion pounds of plastic needlessly end up in the ocean, threatening the beauty of our oceans and the safety of its inhabitants.
In 2010, a gray whale got stranded and died near Seattle. 20 plastic bags, a golf ball, and other plastic trash were found in its stomach.
The truth is, we can drastically reduce the amount of plastic that makes it into our waters by taking action. Working with our government and demanding an end to single-use plastics and refusing to buy products made with this material is a huge place to start.
